Nonprofit financial reporting
MFO prepares monthly nonprofit financial statements and board-ready reports that show leaders where the organization stands and where it’s headed. Clients receive a statement of financial position, a statement of activities and a budget-to-actual report each month, with grant, cash and restricted-fund reporting added as needed.

How it works
A steady, predictable process
01
Define what you need
We start with who reads your reports (board, funders, leadership) and what decisions they need to make.
02
Build the structure
Programs, grants and classes are mapped in your books so reports come straight from the accounting, not from side spreadsheets.
03
Close and review
Each month’s numbers are reconciled and reviewed by your controller before anything is delivered.
04
Deliver and discuss
You receive your reports and walk through them with your team on a recurring call.

Common questions
Financial Reporting FAQ
What financial reports should a nonprofit board review?
Most nonprofit boards regularly review a statement of financial position (balance sheet), a statement of activities (income statement), a budget-to-actual comparison, a cash position or forecast, and a summary of restricted funds and grant spending. MFO prepares these for clients and tailors the board packet to what each board needs.
How often will we receive financial statements?
MFO closes the books every month and delivers monthly financial statements, typically around the 20th of the following month. Board packets usually follow your board’s meeting schedule, often quarterly.
Can MFO produce consolidated reports for multiple entities?
Yes. For organizations with a 501(c)(3), an affiliated 501(c)(4) or other related entities, MFO produces reports for each entity and consolidated views across them.
Does MFO help with our annual audit?
Yes. MFO doesn’t perform audits, but we prepare the reconciliations, schedules and supporting documents your auditors request and work directly with them through fieldwork.
